Fascias and soffits
Rotten timber replaced with low-maintenance uPVC, bargeboards renewed, and matching gutters fitted, so the roofline looks smart and stays sound.
Fascias and soffits
The fascia is the board along the edge of the roof that the gutters fix to. The soffit is the board underneath that closes in the eaves. On many houses they're still the original timber, and after decades of weather they rot, flake and let birds and water into the roof.
We replace fascias, soffits and bargeboards, usually in uPVC that doesn't need painting, and refit or renew the guttering at the same time. When the roof edge needs attention, we sort that too.
Signs your fascias and soffits need replacing
- Flaking paint and soft, rotten timber
- Gutters pulling away or sagging because the board behind has rotted
- Gaps where birds or wasps are getting into the roof
- Damp or staining under the eaves
- Bargeboards on a gable end that have split or warped
- A roofline that's had more paint than wood for years

- 05
Gutters back up
Gutters refitted or replaced, and the bottom row of tiles and the felt checked.
Replacement or capping?
Capping means fitting uPVC boards over the existing timber. It's quicker, but it's only sensible when the timber underneath is completely sound, because rot carries on behind the cover. Full replacement removes the old boards so we can see and fix what's behind. We'll tell you which suits your house.
Ventilation
Air needs to move through the roof space to stop condensation. Vented soffits or eaves vents keep air flowing when new boards go on, especially if the loft has been insulated since the house was built.
Bargeboards and gable ends
Bargeboards run up the sloping edges of a gable. They take a lot of weather and often split or warp. We replace them and can fit a dry verge system at the same time, so there's no mortar to fall out of the roof edge.
Prices
What affects the price
Every roof is different, so we don't put prices on a website and then add extras later. Lee looks at your roof and gives you a written quote, free, with everything included.

"The old timber soffit on a 1970s semi needed replacing and the edge tiles re-seating and re-sealing. Leigh's team arrived on time and did a good job, leaving the site clean and tidy."
- ★★★★★10/10
"Lee came out the same day that I made the request and explained what was needed to be done. Agreed for the work to go ahead and it was completed the following day. The work involved replacing a broken tile; work on the ridge tiles and solving an issue of a noise in the roof that other contractors had not solved. Work carried out professionally and would use company again."

FAQs
Fascias & soffits: your questions
Something else? Call Lee on 07864 367325. He's happy to talk it through.
What's the difference between fascias and soffits?
The fascia is the upright board along the roof edge that holds the gutters. The soffit is the flat board underneath that closes in the eaves.
Is capping over old timber a good idea?
Only if the timber is completely sound. Otherwise rot carries on hidden behind the new boards. Full replacement lets us check and fix what's behind.
Do I need scaffolding?
For most houses, a scaffold or access towers make the job safe and tidy. It's included in your quote.
Can you replace the gutters at the same time?
Yes, and it's usually the best time to do it, so the whole roofline matches.
